Since the start of the coronavirus crisis, we know that businesses are struggling to find the right content for their Instagram. What is the right message? Are people sick of inspirational upbeat posts? Should we try to avoid using the words pandemic, unprecedented or crisis? If so, what should we be posting about in this unprecedented global pandemic crisis? 😜

Stay Visible

Our first bit of advice is to stay visible. WHATEVER your industry is, it is so important to remain visible right now. If your business isn’t thriving then focus on what you are doing with your day, plans for when you re-open and share photos from when business was open to remind your customers just how great you are. If the business is going well, (congratulations), then share some of your successes in a non-gloaty way. Make sure your customers know how they can still use your business and how operations might have changed.

Keep communicating and build your community. Keep the community spirit alive by interacting with your followers and taking an interest in them. Show support for both customers AND other businesses. Now is not the time for making it all about you. Engaging with your followers means they will get to know the personality behind your brand and that is important in the current climate. Create content that will add value to your followers’ day and keep it positive.

Ideas for content

Stories. If you have not had time to master these yet, then now is the time to learn! Share entertaining parts of your day, updates on your life or the business and share interesting information, pages or posts.

Live. So many people are engaging with live content. Your audience is sat waiting for something to break up their lockdown day so get behind that camera. Do question and answers, collaborate with like-minded individuals to deliver interesting content about your industry or just for a fun chinwag

Tips and tutorials. If you aren’t able to trade right now keep your followers interested and engaged by releasing top tips and tutorials related to your business and industry.

Information. Keep people updated with your latest news. You might think you don’t have any but think outside the box. Let them know how to contact you, let them know about prices or offers, let people join a waiting list for when you re-open. Provide your audience with as much information about your products and services without pushing a hard-sell. You might be surprised about how little they knew about some areas of your business.

Community, positivity, and hope. Those are the underlying themes for content at the moment. You don’t have to be inspirational or cringey and we advise on keeping it down to earth but sharing, caring and making your followers smile should be the message across all of your social media. This crisis has taught us that owning a business isn’t all about getting rich. It is about using your position to inspire and help others and finding opportunities for growth that are about more than money.

And on that note, have a great day 😊

“You are not here merely to make a living. You are here to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.”

- Woodrow Wilson
